Brethren, its a great pleasure for me to write this page, 2 months after my installation as Master of Lodge Kilsyth St. John 39 its difficult to find the time to do some things (maybe its old age creeping in) like writing a web page, during my first term as master 1994/95 we didnt even have a Lodge magazine, the old gone but not forgotten DOOCOT, and now everything is in here on the web at the click of a button. I must thank Bro. Alan Inglis for getting this wonderful site back up and running, well done Alan and i hope our members and friends support it.
Brethren looking out from the chair of King Solomon things have changed greatly, our Temple is looking much smarter and more Masonic than ever after its renovation during the year of Bro. Steven Waugh but the biggest change is the number of brethren staring back at me. Attendances have been steadily decreasing over many years, the reasons for this are manifold and the General Committee are actively trying to find ways of attracting old and new members back into attendance, this can only be successful with the full support of ALL who have the interests of Lodge 39 in their hearts.
My 2nd term as Master started on a great high with the Annual Installation on Sat 20 Dec 2008 and the Installing Masters Bro.James Alexander Bingham and George James Lauder deserved the great applause they rightly received that evening. It was also a great personal pleasure for me to confer Honorary Life Membership on Worshipful Bro. Gabriel Lopez Past Depute Grand Master of the Grand Lodge Of Spain and Worthy Bro. Alan Maguire Grand Inspector of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Londonderry and Donegal.
In January we have already had 2 successful regular meetings on the 7th a first degree with 1 candidate and on the 17th a third with 2 candidates. We also had a very good Burns Supper on the 30th and I hope all who attended enjoyed themselves. I thank all who took part and gave there services freely.
We are now into February Brethren and at the 1/4 meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Dunbartonshire we witnessed P.M.Bro. William B. Marshall being presented with his Past Prov. Senior Grand Wardens Jewel and Apron while Bro. Paul Leslie P.M./Piper 39 was installed as Prov Grand Piper and I was installed as Prov Grand Steward 7 (as there is no 8). Congratulations to all these Brethren. At the Annual visit of the provincial Grand Lodge of Dunbartonshire on Wed 4th the P.G.M. Bro. Thomas Kerr Leckenby conferred the office of Honorary Provincial Grand Director Of Ceremonies on P.M.Bro. Benjamin McConnell a great personal honour for Ben and a great honour for 39.
In the near future we have our Regular meetings to look forward to and some social events which will be advertised here and in the Lodge/social club. After the recess we have 1 major event to look forward to when on Sat. Sept 26th at an Emergency meeting of the Lodge we will receive a visitation from Lodge Gavel & Staff 9835 (English Constitution)who will give an exemplification of there 1st degree. Gavel & Staff are one of the youngest Lodges in England and I hope to have details of their short but interesting history on here soon.
Brethren, as Master of 39 I can only ask for your support, if you are an attending member "I,m preaching to the converted", if you come to occasional meetings, I thank you for your support and ask, nae beg that you try to come along more often, if you haven,t been for a "while, why not come along soon and join in the company of your BRETHREN at labour and refreshment. If you think there is a problem why not come and see me or any of the Senior Lodge office bearers and let us try to work it out "to the satisfaction of all concerned".
We are all Brethren of 39 and surely those who have "39 IN THEIR HEARTS" must see that the future of the Lodge is paramount,
i hope to see you all in the future,
yours Sincerely and Fraternally
Wm. Neil Mitchell R.W.M./P.M. 39/ H.M.Emulation Madrid 67(Spain)
